Sport Annual Review

2018

Well West Park, what a year it has been!! We have achieved so much and in such a short amount of time. Way back in April the vision at the academy was to elevate the PE and Sport provision so that the pupils here were given the opportunity to access physical activity on a regular basis along with giving our pupils the enjoyment and pride to represent our brilliant school.

Over the past 7 months we have achieved the School Games Bronze Award, an award that ideally should take a school year but we smashed it in just 10 weeks through our SELF-BELIEF and DETERMINATION!!

We have become the 5th highest attending primary school in Ashfield at the school games, previously we were in the bottom 5-10. In the past term alone we have had over 20 different teams competing which has enabled 60 pupils (40% 0f Key Stage 2) to experience the thrill of competing against other schools at level 3 competition.  The pupils in these events have shown brilliant TEAMWORK and PASSION to achieve their best. Through this we have won GOLD at handball, SILVER in Golf and Tennis along with BRONZE at handball and cross country. At all of these events it has been really pleasing to hear such positive feedback from other schools and Glynn Hall, the SGO for Ashfield. Our children have always demonstrated the school games values and we incorporate these into our lessons and school life.

Over the past 3 months alone we have worked with local clubs to open our pupils eyes to the fantastic world of sport which they have right on their doorstep. A big thank you to Mansfield Junior Hockey Club, Notts Cricket Club, Nottingham Forest, Advanced Squash Coaching, Karate Zone, Mini Tennis, Sutton-In-Ashfield Harriers and The Lammas Centre for providing our pupils with excellent coaching sessions, the pupils showed upmost RESPECT for these visitors and it was clear to see the enjoyment they received from participating in these sessions. We have now see a rise in our pupils’ activity levels away from school which is very pleasing for us, we will continue to work with local clubs in an attempt for these numbers to rise.

We offer an extensive extra-curricular programme for our Key Stage 2 which has seen over 100 pupils attend clubs on a weekly basis. This number is set to grow in 2019.

Exciting news for 2019
