The Sporting Year so far…….

Way back in September our ambition was to regularly compete at competitions in Ashfield, giving our pupils the opportunity to represent our academy. Alongside this there would be a variety of extra-curricular clubs which would broaden the experiences our pupils had when playing sport. Using outside coaches to promote local clubs and improve staff ‘s delivery skills has also had an impact in school. We still have a term to go before the end of the academic year but we already feel we have surpassed our expectations for the year and are already planning for an even better 2019-2020. Please see below some key information with regards our successes since September:

  • 80% of Year 5&6 pupils have accessed an extra-curricular club
  • 85% of Year 6 pupils have represented school
  • 76% of year 4&5 pupils have represented school
  • All pupils in KS2 have engaged in PE on a regular weekly basis.
  • All pupils in KS2 have worked with a variety of external coaches to help raise their awareness of opportunities away from school
  • 96 pupils have now represented the academy since September
  • As a school we have had 35 school teams compete at inter school level (7 of which have been B teams & 2 have been C teams)
  • We have won 2 gold medals (Handball and Basketball)
  • We have competed at 3 district finals
  • Our year 6 pupils have had the opportunity to deliver sessions to Key Stage 1 to improve their leadership skills
  • 58% of Key Stage 1 have accessed an extra-curricular club (playing handball, netball, football and dodgeball)
  • All pupils in Year 2 have accessed tennis coaching from Mini Tennis coach Luke Sloan
  • All pupils in Year 1 have accessed the Chance To Shine cricket programme for 6 weeks
  • Forge Dodgeball Champions
  • Silver medallist at the Year 3&4 Forge Tennis Event
  • Bronze placed for KS1 athletics
  • Regularly over 100 participants at extra-curricular activities on a weekly basis
  • Retweets from British Dodgeball, England Handball and The Lawn Tennis Association

All of these achievements have come through the hard work of all staff and pupils along with the support of parents. We are very much looking forward to the summer term with even more sports taking place and potentially even more success!! Along with this we will also be applying for our school games award, fingers crossed for Gold!

Happy Easter holiday everyone
