PE Sports Premium Grant Funding

Proposed for 2018 - 2019

Recommended Funding Strategy

Provide existing staff with resources to help them teach PE and sport more effectively.

Last year enabled the PE equipment to be increased, this year will allow for equipment to be replenished where necessary along with nay new required equipment

  • Size 3 footballs

  • Batting tees (rounders & cricket)

Cost: £500 

Intended outcomes

Resources will enable staff to teach a wider range of games effectively and offer the children opportunities to access a wider range of clubs and competitions. Lunch time clubs will provide a semi-structured environment in which children can enjoy sports at lunch times.

The academy will use the autumn to put in place all the requirements for the Gold award

Monitoring

Introduce new sports or activities and encourage more pupils to take up sport, to include but not limited to:

Dodgeball

Handball

Pop Lacrosse

Scatterball 

Where possible sports will follow the school games format

  • Take part in the Nottingham Forest Premier Stars programme to develop the teaching of football as well as providing essential CPD for staff (£2466).
  • Continued After School & lunch-time provision in place

Intended outcomes

Advanced squash coaching provided by Andy Hay. Children in Year 3 will have the opportunity to take part in a sport that they have not experience before. Andy will also deliver an advanced tennis after school club for pupils selected for school teams

A range of new sports introduced encouraging mass participation.

Unstructured times will become structured learning opportunities.

Increase participation in extra-curricular sports at lunch times and after school.

Recommended Funding Strategy

Introduce planning and assessment tool to staff and implement the planning across the school.

  • PE Specialist will implement and maintain bespoke monitoring system. 
  • Assess children’s activity levels during the school day through active school planner 
  • Staff to observe the PE Specialist (as part of PPA) so that the teaching of PE and school sport significantly improves

Providing staff with high quality planning and resources. Staff feel more confident to deliver quality PE sessions and are provided with a tool to support them in assessing skills.

  • Tournament entry (£45)
  • PE Specialist to lead after school clubs (four times per week)
  • Contribution to Ashfield District Sports (£750)
  • PE Specialist to coordinate attendance at a range of competitions and festivals (Summer term onwards)

Intended outcomes

Clubs and competitions will provide a wide range of opportunities for children to compete for their school. They will also provide talented children with opportunities to showcase their skills.

Significantly increased participation in competitions and festivals.

Development of the identity of The West Park Academy within the local community and a sense of pride at representing the academy.

External recognition through the achievement of the Bronze Primary School Games Award.

Improve the school outdoor area and provide more resources for playtimes and lunchtimes.

Equipment for playtimes will be provided. This will include:

Rackets and balls

Tennis balls

Basketballs

Skipping ropes

Hoops

Resources will provide children with a wider choice of games and activities available to them at playtimes and lunchtimes.

Increased participation in a range of sports.

Improved achievement in PE.
